INDIAN CULTURAL CENTRE FIJI HONOURS HILLARY

The High Commission of India in Suva, together with its cultural arm, the ICC hosted Lady June Hillary, Dr Satendra Singh and NZ Trade Commissioner Peter Land to a special event to recognise Sir Edmund Hillary's 60th anniversary of Mt Everest. Students at the Cultural Centre presented a program of classical and folk dances for the chief guests and other invited members from among several communities. These included the local Pravasi Youth Club. Welcoming Lady Hillary, High Commissioner Rattan praised Sir Edmund's special place among Indians for his many exploits. The High Commissioner also praised Dr Satendra Singh on his Pravasi Award from President Mukherjee. Lady Hillary said she greatly appreciated the students' performances, especially an item in "fusion" where girls in traditional Fijian costumes, presented an item in classical Kathak style, in fusion with Fijian and Indian music.
